How To Install WordPress On WAMP Server In Windows?

You may be running an online website but have you ever thought to install WordPress locally on your computer?

Most of the people install WordPress on XAMPP server but a few are there who are using WAMP.

Both are the softwares which create a local environment to set up a website.

Mostly, people use WAMP in MAC OS but you should know that you also install WordPress on WAMP server in Windows.

You will see the database and the PHP availability to handle your offline website.

Just like an online server, you will find the same concept of website building. In this tutorial, you will learn the easiest way to start an offline website using WAMP.

What Should You Do To Start Using WAMP Server?

There are a few steps which would guide you through the installation process and the set up of WordPress.

Step 1:- First of all, go to the official website of WAMP and download this software.

Choose the version according to the Windows you have. If you have 32-bit version of Windows then download the similar version of WAMP.

The same thing is applied for 64-bit Windows.

Step 2:- Run the setup and install it on your computer. You would see that by default, the browser would be Internet Explorer.

If you want to change it, you have to locate the browser in program files.

But still, it’s okay to use Internet Explorer.

Step 3:- After installation, click on the WAMP icon to run it. You will notice the process in the notification box of Windows.

Click on the WAMP icon when it turns green and then select “phpMyAdmin” to setup the database for your local website.

Step 4:- A new tab would open in the browser where you have to create the new database. Just click on the “databases” and enter the name of the database.

I have used “text_db”. You can use anything you like.

After filling the name, click to the create button and boom, a new database is present in WAMP.

A Few Steps To Install WordPress On WAMP Server.

In the previous steps, you have installed the WAMP server. Now is the time to install WordPress.

Step 1:- Download the latest version of WordPress from WordPress.org. There would be a ZIP file. You have to extract the “WordPress” folder present in this file.

Step 2:- Go to the “C” drive or the drive where you have installed the Windows in your computer and search for the “WAMP” folder.

It may possible that the folder name may be “WAMP64, WAMP32” or similar to that. You can easily recognize it.

Open the folder and search for “www” folder. Copy and paste the “WordPress” folder you have extracted and paste it in this “www” folder.

You can change the name of “WordPress” folder if you want. For example, mysite, yoursite, newsite, testsite etc.

Step 3:- Go to the browser and open “localhost/wordpress” . I haven’t changed the folder name so the URL consists the WordPress.

If you have replaced it with anything mentioned in the examples then use that name in the URL.

Step 4:- You would see an option to choose the language for the installation. Just after that, you will be asked to go on and on.

To create the wp-config.php file, you should click on the “Let’s go” button.

Step 5:- Now is the time to fill the information about the database. By default, the database username is “root”. No password is required.

Fill the database name you have created earlier and click to “submit” button.

Step 6:- This is the final step. You have to fill the information about the local site.

Fill the site title, username, password, email address in front of the respective fields. You don’t want to index this offline website so check the box to discourage search engine to index.

Afters submitting all the details, click on “Install WordPress” button and you will get the login page.

Use the login details you have just created and congrats, you have are having a brand new version of WordPress in your local server.

To install WordPress on WAMP server, you should have the proper configuration of Windows visual studio files.

Sometimes, it shows errors after installation.

But if you have successfully done this task then enjoy testing and learning about new plugins and themes.

    It’s really informative, I remember when I just started with wordpress I’m really confused how to config wamp for my windows machine. Also confused in Wamp or Xampp server. But Now I feeling this is what I need in my past. Anyways i have bookmark this to share it with my fellows you are just taking startup.

      Most of the beginners get confused with these two softwares. XAMPP is the most common used software for the Windows users.
